Assistant Professor (Computer Science)
The SUNY Broome Community College Computer Science Department is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Computer Science Instructor to join our faculty for the Fall 2026 semester.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction with a specialization in Cybersecurity and Computer Networking, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, and preparing students for careers in this critical technology field or for further studies. This role requires a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success in a diverse community college setting. This is an in-person, full-time, tenure-track appointment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in a variety of computer science courses, with a focus on cybersecurity, network security, computer networks, advanced networking protocols, network security, and defensive security strategies.
- Specifically teach and develop curriculum related to securing remote access, VPNs, cloud networking security, and secure remote work architectures.
- Develop and update course syllabi, assignments, and assessments in alignment with department goals and current industry standards (e.g., Comp TIA, Cisco, EC-Council).
- Use innovative teaching methods, including online, hybrid, and in-person instruction, to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Provide academic support and mentorship to students, including advising, tutoring, and career guidance, especially for students pursuing networking and security certifications/careers.
- Maintain an inclusive classroom environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds and learning abilities.
- Participate in department meetings, curriculum development, and college-wide committees and initiatives.
- Stay current with developments in the fields of cybersecurity, networking, and remote network security best practices and integrate relevant industry trends and lab exercises into the curriculum.
- Engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and remain knowledgeable in your area of expertise.
Requirements:
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Information Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required.
- Three years teaching experience, or an appropriate combination of teaching, relevant work experience (e.g., Network Administrator, Security Analyst), and scholarly activity is required.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to teach a range of computer science courses including, but not limited to, networking fundamentals, advanced routing and switching, network security, remote network security, secure access methodologies (VPN, SASE), penetration testing, and digital forensics.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Comp TIA Security+, Network+, CCNA, CISSP).
- Experience in or commitment to teaching at the community college level.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Familiarity with instructional technology and online teaching platforms (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, or similar Learning Management Systems).
Additional Information:
The minimum annual salary for this position is $56,606. Salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
