Position Goal
To ensure an environment of operating excellence and safety so that full educational use of all facilities may be made at all times. Specific responsibilities will be designated between night and day shift.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- General knowledge of basic cleaning and cleaning supplies.
- Repair and maintenance of a school building.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to complete appointed tasks independently.
- Ability to be on your feet for a long period of time.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with staff, students, and community members.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to carry up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to push/pull 26 lbs.
- Other qualifications as determined as necessary by the superintendent.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for the opening of the building each school day.
- Checks daily to ensure that appropriate exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Secures appropriate doors during the hours of building occupancy.
- Conducts regular inspection of the building at the start of the school day, and throughout the day.
- Keeps hallways and corridors free of hazards and obstructions.
- Keeps all floors in a clean, attractive, and safe condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Clean areas of the school as assigned the specific work areas and work schedule for said areas are described by the Superintendent/Principal. These tasks include but are not limited to:
Dust mopping the gym floor and bleachers.
Dust mopping and wet mopping classroom floors and hallways.
Vacuuming rugs and carpeted floors.
Move furniture including chairs, tables, and desks.
Change light bulbs.
Empty trash and carry to dumpsters.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
Scrubs, mops, and disinfects bathrooms, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
Cleaning and mopping the cafeteria and kitchen floor.
Washes all windows on the inside and those that can be reached on the outside as needed. Windows where the staff, students, and public enter should be cleaned weekly. Helps keep grounds free of rubbish.
Cleans marker boards and trays daily.
Keeps wastebaskets and recycling containers inside and outside of classrooms and offices empty and clean.
- Keeps entrances to buildings and bus exits free of ice and snow.
- Reports to the Superintendent any problems associated with heat or ventilation.
- Performs small building repairs as necessary.
- Assists building staff with appropriate building maintenance/custodial needs.
- Promptly reports major repairs needed to the Superintendent.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Makes recommendations to the Superintendent for maintenance issues and repairs, including long-term recommendations for maintenance of overall building and facilities (roof, blacktop, plumbing, electrical, flooring, etc.).
- Responsible for keeping an inventory of maintenance/custodial supplies.
- Orders and restocks custodial/maintenance supplies as needed.
- Reports to the Superintendent any acts of vandalism, any evidence of deliberate littering, or inappropriate behavior by students.
- Assists the visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up for activities as needed.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by administration or as requested by teaching staff.
- Remains on school premises during hours of work, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the Superintendent.
Schedule
The work hours for this position are from 7: 00 A.M.-3: 30 P.M. The schedule is subject to change with district demands. Overtime is required when requested.
Compensation
$20 per hour; 250 days; benefits; 10 vacation days; 12 sick days; 2 personal days
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Superintendent's procedure on evaluations.
