Safety Compliance Officer

Description:

Coordination of activities and performs the functions of the Safety Department.

Job Duties:

Effective management of designated personnel to include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing and performing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, including drivers; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Track the companys CSA score.

Keep informed of applicable safety regulations (DOT, FMCSA and OSHA).

Conduct monthly OSHA inspections of facility.

Investigate accidents and handle all claim litigation for the companys cargo, vehicle liability claims. Take after-hour calls relating to accidents, incidents or damage (cargo or otherwise) and other safety related issues.

Manage recruitment of owner/operators and company drivers.

Interface with Human Resources regarding driver orientation, alcohol and drug testing program for DOT.

Maintain mileage reporting on company fleet by year end odometer readings.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• BA from four-year college or university; or one to two years of related experience and/or training.
• 2 plus years in Transportation Safety Management
• Familiar with all DOT, CSA and OSHA regulation.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs as required.
• Ability to climb in and out of heavy trucks.
• General knowledge and proficient use of computers and computer programs.
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated; capable of working independently.
• Able to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
• Good written and verbal communication skills
