The Detroit Free Press/freep.com, the largest metro publication within the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a stellar sports writer to tackle one of the most challenging high school beats in the nation. The Freep's high school beat is more than just game coverage, although the ideal candidate is as comfortable describing a game-winning drive in the state title game at Ford Field as they are detailing the various challenges facing an athlete even before they stepped onto (or into) the court, field, ice or pool. An athlete's story starts well before the opening tipoff, kickoff or faceoff, and the Freep's high school sports reporter will use clear, concise language to bring readers into their lives, with an eye toward publication on multiple platforms (including print, digital, social and audio). We are looking for a reporter who can dig up that story and then dive in, whether that's under the Friday night lights of football season, under the fluorescent bulbs of recruiting season (which never really ends) or under the sunny (and rainy) skies of softball season. That includes filling the Freep audience's year-around love of high school sports stories with timely, compelling storytelling and engaging photo, video and audio. The ideal candidate will deliver our region's most important tales, of teens and their teams (current and future), all while being a team player at the Free Press. Requirements: This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law. Application Instructions: We are eager to learn more about you and how you fit this role. When you apply, don't limit your upload to a rsum; show us what you've done. To do so, put together a single document file that includes the following, in this order: It is important that these items be assembled into a single document and uploaded in PDF format. Completing these steps will ensure that your application receives the highest consideration. #Newsgnt #LI-CB1 |
