Position Overview:

The Cognition and Emotion instructor will be responsible for teaching a fundamental component of the Foundations Series within the Clinical Psychology Program at the Wright Institute. Primary topics include first-, second-, and third-person perspective, perception, attention, conscious and unconscious processes, affect and emotion, interoception, prediction, language, memory, emotion-memory interactions, mental representation, and feelings-as-information in decision-making. Fundamental cognitive and affective processes are seen as potential transdiagnostic mechanisms in understanding psychological dysfunction. The course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific aspects of cognitive and affective bases of behavior, focusing on the adaptation of this knowledge toward the biopsychosocial practice of clinical psychology.

Instructors seeking a more substantial faculty position and are also qualified and interested in teaching a year-long sequence of courses including research methods, statistics, tests and measurements, and a course involving the guidance of doctoral students in preparing a pre-dissertation prospectus are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

• Update curriculum and develop a syllabus.
• Teach the Cognition and Emotion course.
• Student Engagement: Foster an engaging and supportive learning environment, encouraging student participation and facilitating discussions that enhance understanding of the material.
• Assessment: Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress and understanding, providing timely feedback and suppor
• Course Materials: Prepare and update course materials, including syllabi, reading lists, lecture notes, and multimedia resources.
• Advising: Offer academic advising and support to students, assisting them in their professional and academic development.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive educational experience for students.

Qualifications:

• Education: Ph.D. in cognitive or affective psychology or those holding another doctoral degree and who can demonstrate expertise (research, publications, presentations, organizational involvement) in the area of cognition and emotion psychology.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in teaching at the graduate level.
• Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
• Commitment: Dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
