Paraprofessional

Qualifications:
- Experience and interest working with children.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
- Special education paraprofessionals must meet Pennsylvania’s regulatory requirements contained in 22 Pa. Code §14.105 which include the following:
- Have completed at least two years of postsecondary study, or
- Possess an associate degree or higher, or
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a State or local assessment, and
- Instructional paraprofessionals, each school year, shall provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to their assignment.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Goal: To aid in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Terms of Employment: Ten (10) month school year (182 days). No more than 29 ¾ hours per week. Salary and work year established by the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Under supervision of certified teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
- Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by teacher.
- Accompanies children, carrying out teacher’s specific directions for community-based instructional activities.
- Assists individual children in need of special attention, such as assisting from vehicles to building; transportation to integrated classes, etc. Performs clerical duties.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up by the teacher.
- Prepares and utilizes assistive technology.
- Assists teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack, hygiene, toilet and clothing routines.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work.
- Assists in drill work.
- Assists with reading and storytelling.
- Assists small groups of students in the library.
- Participates in in-service training programs.
- Any other activities as assigned by the administration.
