Special Education Teacher

Qualifications:
- Valid Teaching Certificate
- Bachelors’ Degree (minimum) in the field of Education
- Demonstrated ability to work with other teachers and administrators
- Familiarity with the process of educational research and statistics
- The ability to articulate and communicate effectively, both verbally and in written reports
- Demonstrated knowledge of Chapter 14 Regulations and Standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA and gifted education regulations
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
Goal: To deliver high-quality mathematics instruction aligned with the Tamaqua Area School District curriculum, PA Eligible Content, and PA Core Standards. The teacher will engage students in meaningful learning experiences, differentiate instruction to meet student needs, and actively participate in curriculum development and school initiatives.
Terms of Employment: Ten (10) month school year. Salary and work year established by the Board of Education and per teacher contract. Benefits include ten vacation days and three personal days.
Evaluation: The Director or Supervisor of Special Education shall evaluate performance of this position annually.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designed.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the Intermediate Unit.
- Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the Intermediate Unit's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by
law, Intermediate Unit policy and administrative regulation.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- When appropriate, serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary teams; attends IEP conferences and develops IEP's in areas for which he is responsible.
- Attend and participates in faculty meetings.
- Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
- Provides for his own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
