The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is looking for anaudience-focused reporter to join our breaking and trending news team, which puts the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel at the center of what is happening and what people are talking about. We want a reporter who is quick and flexible - able to identify story ideas, aggressively pursue them and present them in different formats. This reporter should be comfortable writing on deadline, be able to seamlessly move between topics and eager to pursue stories no matter how large or small. In this role, you will work with reporters and editors across the newsroom and play a role in some of the biggest stories that emerge each day. At the same time, you should be able to develop your own story ideas. The goal of this position is to reach new readers with creative story formats, including video, listicles, explainers and more. This reporter must have a passion for telling stories quickly when needed, in-depth when called for, and always with accuracy. Thus, the reporter should be as comfortable taking inventive angles off the daily news, like writing "What's the big deal about Buc-ee's?" a Texas gas station coming to Wisconsin as rounding up reactions to something a politician said about Milwaukee. This role covers a shift that starts at 6 a.m., to help the newsroom get a jump start on the day, including early coverage of public safety and weather. Responsibilities:
