MAINTENANCE WORKER II

For Central California Irrigation District in the Los Banos area. Successful applicants will work in the operation and maintenance of the District's irrigation water distribution system. Pay range is a 10-step schedule starting at $22.11 per hour to $33.51 per hour. Starting pay is commensurate with experience. CENTRAL CALIFORNIA IRRIGATION DISTRICT

MAINTENANCE WORKER II

Definition: Under direction to perform skilled and unskilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of District facilities and to do related work as required.

Examples of Duties: (1) Sprays ditches and canals; (2) operate equipment such as mowers, trucks, sprayers, pickups and similar light automotive equipment; (3) mows ditches in clearing grass and weeds to insure proper water flow; (4) cleans canals of debris; (5) pours and finishes reinforced concrete; (6) and operates de-watering pumps.

Knowledge of: Operating principles and maintenance requirements of irrigation systems, construction tools, equipment, and techniques commonly used in installation of irrigation system facilities in addition to safe working practices.

Ability to: Work independently and cooperatively with others; perform heavy manual work including: lifting and carrying concrete bags weighing 90 lbs. each up and down canal bank slopes; bending, stooping, crawling in confined spaces down to 24" in diameter; shoveling; lifting and carrying 75 lb. portable pumps on dry surfaces and through 6" deep mud; wade and work within irrigation facilities which are full of water; operate light automotive equipment; do skilled work in the building of forms and the pouring and finishing of concrete; and keep simple records of materials used and time spent.

License: Possession of an appropriate California Driver's License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Employment Experience: Ability to read and write at the level required for a successful job performance and two years experience in the construction and maintenance of irrigation system facilities.
